This five-day training and assessment course is your first step into the BASI Education System. This five-day course includes on-snow training and assessment specific to Cross Country skiing, plus mandatory online modules to complete beforehand.
How to teach beginners and early intermediates in both Classic and Skate techniques
Effective use of terrain, speed control, and technique transitions
Practical teaching skills, with regular Trainer feedback
A personalised action plan to support your progression
You must:
Be able to ski Classic Diagonal Stride and Double Pole on varied terrain
Be able to perform Skate 1 and Skate 3 techniques
Control speed and direction using snowplough and plough turns
Be at least 16 years old
(Recommended) Have completed at least 16 full weeks of cross country skiing
Be of reasonable fitness
You’ll need:
Classic and Skate skis (waxed, fishscale, or skin acceptable)
A pair of combi boots (or Classic and Skate boots) suitable for both disciplines

The ISIA minimum standards require you to have a second snowsport alongside your main discipline as part of your Level 3 ISIA Qualification.
If your main discipline is Cross Country, you can meet this requirement by successfully completing a Level 1 Instructor course in snowboard, adaptive, telemark or ski.
